Our tarmac driveways are installed to the same specification as our block paving jobs, in that, they are dug out and stoned up to a thickness of 4 to 8 inches, depending on the ground beneath, with type 1 Hard-core and compacted with a roller. The tarmac is set in two layers, the base course will be around 50mm thick and the top course will be around 25mm thick when rolled out. Clients have a choice of red or black, quality top coats. This should then be levelled and compacted using the proper machinery with all the required drainage considerations taken care of.


Often the preferred choice for high traffic areas such as car parks and road surfacing, tarmac driveways are extremely durable.  Tarmac is available in the traditional colours of red or black.  It is more cost effective than most driveway materials and is easy to install and lay, when done by professionals. Tarmac is also very low maintenance, economical and practical for today’s modern homeowner. New tarmac is specifically designed to hold up against the surface aggravation of power steering.  Tarmac can also be repaired and re-surfaced if required.

Depth of a Driveway

The actual tarmac covering should be laid with a 12.5mm base layer followed by a 25mm wearing course, that will give you a tarmac driveway which lasts for many, many years to come.

Installing a Tarmacadam Driveway

We cleared the old driveway away, ensuring it was the correct depth we then laid hardcore, leveled and compacted.

Installation of a drain channel was incorporated.  The drain cover was replaced to corporate the tarmac for it to blend in with the driveway itself.

A pattern installed using grey block paving.  Grey block pavers were used for the edgings.

The tarmaca was laid, leveled and compacted.  A nice smooth, level and strong driveway was installed.

Once the old driveway had been dug out and removed, the area was prepared by laying the hard core, leveling and compacting.

The original drain cover was utilised and the edgings were cobble block pavers.

Traditional tarmacadam was laid, leveling, compacting to ensure the surface was smooth and level.
